Jim and Kathy Decker's Family PagesUpdated August 16, 2009 |
These Various Reports include most of the immediate and collateral lines for the ancestors of both Jim and Kathy. The primary focus of our research has been a complete accounting of the descendants of Kathy's ancestors, Thomas and Sarah Maher Shaw, but also includes most other lines of both Kathy and Jim. Shaws: From Counties Kildare and Carlow to Upstate New York After the Potato Famine, Thomas Shaw and Sarah Maher, from the townland of Knocknagee, in County Kildare Ireland, saw four of their six sons join the masses who left for America. These sons, Lawrence, Michael, Thomas, and David all wound up in the upstate city of Auburn, New York. All four of the brothers who came to Auburn raised large families, and soon several daughters of a fifth brother, John, came to join their Uncles also. John, refusing to cross the Atlantic, stayed behind, but his wife eventually made it to Auburn too. The sixth brother, Patrick was the only one to stay at home and raise his family in Ireland. His family lived primarily in the northern part of County Carlow where many still reside today. My database includes descendants from all of these brothers. It is constantly under construction and revision. I know that some dates and names will be found to be wrong, but, of course, this report should not be taken as a primary source anyway. I have included all information that I have found in hopes that someone will have some information to validate or disprove the relationships. |
