Kenneth was a member of the Civil Defense Ambulance E.M.T. before it became the Zion Rescue Dept. and was international Representative for U.A.W. for 16 years. Personal note: My grandfather, Kenneth, aka. Corky loved horse racing and attended the Kentucky Derby on numerous occasions. He also loved to play the piano, he played by ear (he couldn't read music), and was quite good. According to the family stories as told by Elsie Jane Sutton nee. McNeil, he sometimes played in Chicago nightclubs where he met Al Capone. It is said that Capone liked to hear him play and came to Kenosha on at least one occasion to hear him do so. Obituary of Elizabeth McNeil (publication information is unknown at this time) shows that she died 30 May at Victory Memorial Hospital in Zion. She was born 6 February 1912 in Baraga, daughter of George and Georgiana Rose, the family moved to Dollar Bay in 1927. She moved to Illinois in 1947. Her husband, Ken McNeil, died in May of 1979. Survivors are listed as three sons, a daughter, 13 grandchildren; two brothers, Fred Rose of Dollar Bay and Thomas of Athens, Greece; seven sisters, Margaret Hoyer and Catherine Kirkish of Dollar Bay, Evelyn Haidinger of Kenosha, Wis., Eunice Zerbst of Hancock, Mary Simonich of Laurium, Collette Rose of Houghton and Patricia Goudge of Quincy location. Personal note: Most of what I can write about my Grandma Betty, as we called her is not from fact sheets, but from memories. I think of her as the perfect stereotype Grandmother. I remember sitting in the kitchen with her on cold winter mornings drinking cocoa and listening to her humming or singing. The smells of her home were wonderful, sometimes the smell of bread or some other treat baking, sometimes the smell of the dinner she was making, it seemed to me that she was always baking or cooking something, always humming or singing, and to me she always smelled of Lilac water and cookie dough. Grandma was always feeding everybody, that was her way of making everything right with the world. She ruled the house, though she let Grandpa think that he did. She never drove a car, I don't think that she ever had a license, or had ever attempted to try. She didn't need to, Grandpa took her where ever she had to go. I remember her chasing my brother, sister, and I around with her false teeth. The faster we ran, and the more we screamed, the harder she laughed. She thought that it was about the funniest trick she could ever play. I remember that I loved her very much, and that she loved me. (Vicky Deckrosh, October 26, 1995).

David J. McNeil, 42, Zion, Illinois, died Wednesday (October 12, 1983) at the American International Hospital in Zion. The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth (Elizabeth) McNeil, he was born on Aug. 13, 1941 in Kenosha. He was a resident of the Kenosha area most of his life. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He had been employed by the Stone Container Corp. in North Chicago. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Kenosha, Independent Order of Foresters, and a former member of the Zion rescue department. Survivors are listed as; his wife Joan; a son, Eric, at home; two brothers, Robert of Zion, and M/Sgt. James, stationed with the Army in Germany, and a sister, Mrs. Keith (Karen) Lindahl, Kenosha. A wedding trip to Orlando, Fla., was taken by Mr. and Mrs. David Jay McNeil who married Saturday, Oct. 6. at Grace Lutheran Church.
The Rev. Erwin Wendt officiated at the 2p.m. ceremony which united the former Miss Joan Alice Hamsing, 6603 7th Ave., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Hamsing, 1314 59th St., and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth McNeil, Zion, Ill.
Miss Patricia Koerth was maid of honor, and Robert McNeil was his brother's best man.
Mrs. Duane Peacy, twin sister of the bride, and her husband Duane were bridesmaid and groomsman. Thomas Hamsing, brother of the bride and Gene Walter were ushers.
A buffet supper and reception were held at 6 p.m. at the V.F.W. club, Winthrop Harbor, Ill.
The bride, a Bradford High School graduate, is employed by Abbott Laboratories, Zion. The groom, a graduate of Zion Benton High School, Zion, is employed by Stone Container Corp., North Chicago, Ill.
The couple will live in Zion.
