Some Notes About the Christian Deckrosh Family
As remembered by Margaret Greenler Beard
(excerpt)
Christian S. Deckrosh ( called Christ), father of Darrell Deckrosh, was a life-long resident of Ohio. He was born near Auresville, Ohio which is also located near Defiance. After he married Elizabeth Lesh Spieth, mother of Darrell Deckrosh, he moved to her farm which was in Pleasant Township, Henry County, near a small town called New Bavaria and another called Pleasant Bend. There is the story told us by Great Grandmother Lesh, who owned the cabin, that when she was a child, that when she was a child, the Indians would pass by and they would run and hide from them. The family attended The Emanuel Reformed Church, now United Church of Christ, which was only a few miles from their home. The funerals were all held from there also. The church is located at the edge of New Bavaria, and many relatives are buried in the church cemetary. Great Grandmother Lesh, made her home with the Deckroshes all of their married lives until her death, 1928. She was a widow from an early age, and was left with four small children to rear. Her husband died of a fever which was common in those days. She was Grandmother Deckrosh's mother, and a dear tiny lady who lived to be 85 years of age.
