I would like to thank everyone whom either knowingly or unknowingly contributed to the content on this and it's subsequent pages. I hope it helps others extend the knowledge they seek while researching their family roots. Without the help of others there is no way I could have gathered the amount of data I now know about extended family members. "One Tree"

My Research Tales and Trails:

The heart of Gudbrandsdalen in Oppland bordering Luster County in central Norway is where a few communities known as Lom, Skjåk and Jostedal are located. Several members of my family emigrated from these communities in 1882 and settled in north central Iowa. Ole Jacobson, a shoemaker, the son of a master fiddler known as Fel-Jakup or Loms-Jakup, came to Iowa to start a new life and become a farmer. He and his family farmed near the villages of Lourdes and Jerico and attended the Crane Creek Norwegian Lutheran Church.

Out of France and into Montreal, Quebec, Canada and eventually central Minnesota waltzed a family called Dufault. This too, was a farming family. After serving in the 12th Vermont Volunteer Infantry and fighting in the Battle of Gettysburg during the Civil War, Stanislas Dufault (John DeFoe) moved his family to Harrison, Minnesota, near the town of Atwater.

Sweden offers much, and it gave us a few great pioneers. They too, settled in central Minnesota near a beautiful river named the St. Croix. Swen Peterson and his wife Helena were pioneers in the town of North Branch, Minnesota where they helped establish the Trinity Lutheran Church.

A young lad by the name of Karl Oskar Edvin Edwardson emigrated from Algutsboda, Sweden when he was just a teen. He helped his Uncle farm for a while in Montana. Later he was hired by William Hill as a postal clerk for the expanding railroad. He served in World War I, while not yet a U.S. citizen, fighting in Meuse-Argonne, France, with such notables as York, Truman and Patton. He would spend much of his life in North Branch, Minnesota.
