I am researching the DeForest family. They originated in France, then came to New York. Eventually, some of them came south and created our line. Family history handed down through the generations tells that all of the DeForest men were boatmen (e.g. captains, seamen, etc.) I am trying to connect the southern line to the northern line. My gggrandfather (John Lane DeForest)is from New York City. He was probably born around 1835. I am also researching the Spence, Cole, Casterline, and Simpson lines, all from the south. The Cole line is probably from Georgia or Alabama. My information is scarce. I am searching for Spence family connections in Texas, probably around the Bastrop County area. The Simpson and Casterline family lines are in Texas, but the Simpsons originate from Edinborough, Scotland with Jonas A Simpson. I'd love to hear from others looking for those surnames or any others that may be connected. |
