| I have been exploring my heritage and have found that Froese Family roots came from East Prussia. My grandparents and great-grandparents came from Gelsenkirchen, Germany. My father, Paul Froese, is the son of Theodor Franz Froese and Maria Rosina Abt. Theodor was the son of Ferdinant Froese and Henrietta Mortiz. Theodor married Ernestine Abt in Gelsenkirchen, Germany and they had 4 surviving children: Herman, Marie, Lena, and Ernest. After Ernestine's death, Theodor married Ernestine's sister Maria Rosina Abt. Theodor and Rosina had 6 surviving children: Martha, Karl, Paul, Clara, Arthur, and Hilda. Upon arriving in America, Theodor settled in Belleville, Illinois where he and Rosina raised the 10 children. This Froese family is largely located in Canada and Illinois, but you will also find us in Arkansas, California, Indiana, Missouri, Nebraska, Oregon, Texas, and Virginia. A Froese family reuntion is being planned for August 12-13, 2000 at Lake Salateeska Baptist Camp, 8.5 miles north of Pinckneyville, Illinois on Route 127.
