She was born February 07, 1101/02 in La Mans, Sarthe, Anjou, France, and died September 10, 1169 in Notre Dame, Rouen, Seine, Maritime, Haute, Normandie, France.

"LE BON" PLANTAGENET:
Geoffrey was Count of Anjou and Maine. Burke says the marriage was April 3, 1127. The name Plantagenet, according to Rapin came from when "Fulk, The Great", being stung from remorse for some wicked action, and in order to atone for it, went on a pilgimage to Jeruselem and was scourged before the Holy Sepulchre with broom twigs. Earlier authorities say it was because Geoffrey bore a branch of yellow broom, (Planta-genistae) in his helm. He was Duke of Normandy from 1144 to 1150. He was also Count of Maine, and Count of Gastinios. He was known as "Geoffrey, the Handsome". Ermengarde, or Matilda, as she was known by was his 3rd wife.

Notes for ERMENGARDE MATILDA
"MAUD" DE BRIONNE:
Ermengarde was called Matilda, (Maud), Princess of England. At the time of her marriage to Geoffrey, she was Empress of Germany, last name De Brionne. She was designated Henry's heir and on his death, (1135) Stephen siezed the throne and Matilda invaded England. (1139) inaugurating a period of inconclusive civil war. She, and her 2nd husband, Geoffrey captured Normandy and in 1152 the treaty of Wallingford recognized Henry as Stephen's heir. Burke says she was betrothed in her 8th year (1119) to Henry. She was Princess of England, Countess of Perche.
