Notes for MICHAEL BEADLE:
Michael Beadle and his family Came to St. Joseph County Michigan in September of 1827 from Bucyrus, Crawford County, Ohio. They first came to Mottville and lived in their covered wagons in the open for the first winter. They only lived here until the spring of 1828 as the land was surveyed there and proved to be a prior French claim. Moving to Youngs Prairie and settling there, the survey struck again and they moved to Flowerfield Township in June of 1828. When Flowerfield was organized in November of 1829 when Michigan first became a state, Michael Beadle and his family were the only White inhabitants of the Township. He occupied Section #1, comprizing the north half of the northeast quarter and the nortwest quarter of that section. A part of this tract, the northwest quarter, was afterward included in the plat of "Flowerfield Village" which was laid out in 1833. Michael built the first Grist Mill, The first Saw Mill, The first Log House, in the Township. Dolly Ann Beadle, a daughter, was the first white child born in the County. Mathilda Beadle, another daughter had the first wedding in the County. He built the first Frame House which is now the City of Three Rivers in Canada Twsp. now the 3rd ward of the city in 1832. He had the first farm in the Township. In the first town meeting Michael was elected as Supervisor. He was appointed as "Captain" in 1832 when "The BlackHawk War" was organized in Prairie Ronde Twsp. The Troops ony went as far as Niles, Michigan when the news came that Blackhawk had been captured.
There is a 14 page documentary included along with this family tree of Michael Beadle and family.

Michael Beadle, born as "Mishael Beadle" First came to Flowerfirld Township in October of 1827 from Bucyrus, Crawford County, Ohio. Shelter, food and drink naturally were the three great needs of the Beadle party of 18 people when they first came to Mottville, St. Joseph County, Michigan. At first, they lived in their covered wagons in the open, sheltered by the great forest trees until a suitable and substantial dwelling could be built. As there were 7 or 8 families in all, some settled on a hillside, and "Digging In," formed a half- cave over which branches of trees were placed. Some families were undecided about a location, so built bark wigwams. In these, the bark of trees were fashioned so that they were fastened at the top together and pinned to a light frame and made a comfortable place for the first winter. This structure that was called a "Wigwam" was not really copied after the American Indian, but built after the manner of shelters in England, and having a fireplace. In constructing this shelter, small poles, stuck in the ground were brought together and fastened , making a dome-shaped roof. A fireplace was built at one end, and at the opposite end was a door, which was not "mat," such as the Indians used pushing it aside as they entered, but one of wood, swung on "Withe Hinges." At the side of the door, a window covered with birch bark lining or oiled paper gave little light in that gloomy room. Straw or rushes sufficed for a covering on the floor, and when night came, each member of the family rolled themselves in skins and slept. Michael Beadle and his son were building a log cabin here in Mottville as this was to be the place where he was going to build his grist and saw mills. Although they only lived in this cabin until the following spring of 1827 when they were obliged to move, as the land was surveyed there proved to be a prior French claim. This time, they moved to Youngs Prairie, and just when settling there, the survey again struck them, as they were on the school section. The school land had not been in the market at that time, but they moved again in June of 1828 to Flowerfield, Michigan. Originally the township of Flowerfield contained the present townships of Leonidas, Mendon, Park and Flowerfield, of the four northern townships of St. Joseph County of today.
When it was organized with the County itself in November of 1829, it had but one single white inhabitant, or at least a single family, the only settler being Michael Beadle and his family who had lately occupied their claim in section #1, comprizing the north half of the northeast quarter and the northwest quarter of that section. A part of this tract, the northwest quarter was afterward included in the plat of Flowerfield Village, which was laid out in 1833. Michael Beadle was a millwright, by trade, an industrious , whole-souled man. He was fond of the hunt, and was very expert in the use of the rifle, and did much to clear the primeval forests of this region from the dangerous animals that once haunted it. His useful career was cut short by death while he was yet in the meridan of life
