Find Family

I am researching the (de) La Grange family who are descended from Jean deLaGrange, once owner of Chateau LaGrange about 30 miles east of Paris. Jean (John) fled France during the Hugenot Massacre with a brother and sailed to America, settling in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He was a friend of the Marquis de Lafayette who eventually settled in the Chateau through his wife's inheritance. It is very possible that he was related to Adrienne Lafayette. The other brother went up the Hudson and settled in Albany, N.Y.
I can trace reliably back to my great grandfather, Henry (de) La Grange, who married a woman named Shipman (Margaret?) from the Netherlands, and gave birth to my grandfather Horace Shipman (de) La Grange. Henry had a brother named Harry. I believe Horace was an only child. Horace married Margaret Adele Sutton, English born, and they bore my father, Horace S. deLaGrange in 1894. I know he was an only child.
I am fortunate to have copies of letters to my father from his Aunt, Sarah E. Messereau, and I believe Messereau to be her married name. It appears she is a sister of Henry and Harry. There was an Aunt Euphema La Grange mentioned who died around 1912.
I hope to be able to trace this line back to ownership of Chateau La Grange and their relationship with the Lafayette's. If you have any information please e-mail me!
