Family oral tradition says that John was a moonshiner. He had his still somewhere in the forrest of Southern St. Mary's County and supplied brew to the New York and Chicago mobs. After a bit, he decided to set up business for himself. The New York/Chicago group did not like this and went serching for him. Family members heard a great ruckus of shouting and gunfire coming from the forrest and saw John come crashing through the shrubs, clothing tattered fro his run for his life. For you see, the mob had decided to eliminate the competition.
