Mabuhay! Welcome to the Denina Family's On-line Genealogy Home Page. It is my honor to accept the task of researching and recording our extended family's ancestry and making it available to all who are interested in learning our history. Before we begin our journey, please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Joe Del Gobbo and I am the husband of Rosemarie (Espanto) Del Gobbo. Many years ago I purchased the "Family Tree Maker" program in the hopes of building a database that would store names and historical information of family members throughout the U.S. and Philippines. With the help of my mom, dad, brothers and sisters, the outline of our lineage began to take shape. After a time, however, the stream of new information about relatives here and abroad began to slowly run dry - as did the interest of cultivating our "tree," which, has sadly lay dormant for some time now. Everything changed during the 2005 Denina Family Reunion held in Virginia Beach, VA. At the "rolling out" of our family's ancestral chart, I sat and watched as young and old alike poured over hundreds of names, each placed meticulously within hand-drawn boxes many years ago, that stretched the length of four picnic tables three times over! Everyone did their best to update the chart, adding the names of children newly arrived, correcting errors and ensuring a coveted star was placed beside family member’s names that had been present. From quiet conversations and concerned questions I overheard regarding relatives who hadn’t been able to attend, the realization came to me that for our family to neglect it’s heritage by failing to maintain a record of our lives, loves, triumphs, failures, losses and gains, would be a tragedy. Interest in "reviving" our long-neglected tree once again bloomed. Genealogy, history of the descent of a family, is often rendered in a tabular list (family tree) in the order of succession, with the earliest known ancestor placed at the head and later generations placed in lines of direct and collateral descent. To maintain a current and up-dated list of family members and their heritage will take the combined effort of all. Most researchers trace genealogy through written records, family Bibles, libraries and courthouses that contain municipal and village records, and church registers that record weddings, christenings, and funerals. However, even in the electronic age with all the resources of the Internet at my disposal, I will be relying most heavily on relatives' memories to build our Family Tree and keep it going - hopefully for generations to come.
