I am researching both my mother's and my father's families. Some of the surnames that I am working on are: My father's line: Alden, Allen, Wheeler, Slocum, Scott, Marbury, Fletcher, Sherman, Vassel and White. My mother's line: Spinney, Newhall, Cox, Bates, Wood(s), Munger, Winslow, Goodrich, Evarts, Moulton and Hopkins. I have over 6,800 names in my data base and can go back into the 1400's. Most of my ancestors arrived in America before 1700. England is the main country of origin for both lines; they settled in Maine, Vermont, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. By the mid to late 1800's many had migrated to Illinois and the Chicago area. My great-great grandfather, Henry C. Woods served in the 11 Illinois Cavalry during the Civil War. He fought at Vicksburg. His brother, Lucius P. Woods was the Surgeon for the 5th New York Cavalry. I would like to share some original lettters from both men. I am interested in sharing information and source documentation. |
