Notes for J
ASPER NEWTON YOUNGER:
Excerpted from "Boone County Historian" - Vol. XII - No. I - 1989:

"Jasper and Pamelia lived to the west of Alexander's place on Water Creek, where Jasper was born. Their daughter, Martha Alice described her grandfather's place as a big log house with two big frame rooms built on. It face east and had a large front porch all the way across and a porch on the west side. It had big rock steps and a path down to the Water Creek spring, which was walled up. Her uncle "Tom", Jasper and their father all used the same spring.

"She described Jasper's house a a large one-room log house with a mud & stick chimney. They later sold it to Aunt "Teen" (Caroline) Wilson and bought the Billy Brown place on "old" Tomahawk just north and joining the Billy Adams place. Howard Wilson, grandson of "Aunt Teen" said the place where she lived was later known as the Isom Stanley place and was at the head of Tomahawk. He also described a walled up spring and a big one room log house. Mineral explorations were made there, and not far from the spring one core drill resulted in an artesian well that runs all the time. Isom built a new house over a drill shaft.

"Jasper was a farmer and also a freighter. As time permitted away from farm chores, he would take produce to Springfield and bring back merchandise. As I recall, his daughter Martha Alice said these trips would take about two weeks. One of his proudest possessions was the matched pair of large white mules that pulled his freight wagon."
