| My journey into genealogy began around 1990 when my mother asked for help locating my father’s grandfather. The search sounded intriguing and when we found the answers, my joy was immeasurable. I was addicted! On this page you will find a blend of verbal history handed down for many generations and facts found in records and various writings. I seek to validate entries through the use of accurate records or information received from reputable persons who have a personal knowledge of the facts. While I would like to say everything is correct, I can only say, “Everything is true and correct to the best of my knowledge and belief.” If you find anything inaccuracies, I would greatly appreciate being notified of the same. My father is HAROLD TILLMAN. His parents are Leonard Tillman and Ernie Pauline Shepard. Leonard descends from the sister of James Copeland of the Copeland Gang (he was known in the Mobile area as the “Southern Land Pirate”). Leonard’s parents are Preston “Banta” Tillman and Mary Marilla Foster. Ernie “supposedly” descends from the daughter of Pushmataha, Choctaw chief (who we understand practiced bigamy). One of his daughters supposedly married an interpreter for the Indians by the name of Holloman. Ernie’s parents are Millard Fillmore Sheppard and Georgiana Holloman of Greene County, Mississippi. My mother is ELIZABETH IOLA MILLS. Her parents are Charles Kurtz Mills and Willie Etta “Bill” Quarles. Charles descends from G. T. Y. Breland, one of the early settlers of Greene County, Mississippi (who served on the grand jury that indicted James Copeland). Charles’ parents are Charles Wood Mills and Emma Iola Platt of Greene County, Mississippi. Bill descends from a long list of Christian men and women who began many churches and preached throughout the South. Bill’s parents are George Washington Quarles and Martha “Mattie” Elizabeth Platt of Perry County, Alabama. My husband is DAVID ARNOLD DELEGAL and his parents are CLARENCE BROWN DELEGAL and MARY ELIZABETH MORGAN. Clarence descends from Philip Delegal who served under General Oglethorpe in Georgia. Philip Delegal’s descendants fought for the British during the Revolutionary War and were banished at the end of the war. Clarence’s parents are Samuel “Sam” Loyless Delegal and Mary Virginia “Virgie” Brown of Suwanee County, Florida. Elizabeth descends from those who fought against the Tories during the Revolutionary War. Elizabeth’s parents are James Henry Morgan and Ada Elva Sellers of Clarke County, Alabama. |
