I am researching the Antoine J Delatte family line from Douay, France. He came to New Orleans, La. on Aug. 11, 1720 aboard the ship Le Lorie which sailed from Lorient, France bound for New Orleans. He resided on Conti and St. Louis streets in the French Quarter of New Orleans, being one of the first families of Louisiana. He was employed by the St. Reine Concession (Plantation) as an engagee. Several years later the family moved upriver to St. John and St. James Parishes. Still later some of the family moved to the Point Coupee Parish area. I researched Antoine's travels and found that he died in Point Coupee and was buried in the church cemetary of the old St. James Chapel there. Subsequent flooding of the Mississippi River inundated the lower part of the cemetary causing a few dozen burial places to be below water. Some of the remains were later removed and placed in a large tomb at the front of the current Catholic cemetary in New Road, La. I walked thru the cemetary and Antoine Delatte was not one of them. I presume his remains are still in the river. This information was given to me by the secretary at the Catholic Church in New Roads, La.
