| I started researching my familytree when my son was born. I have always loved genealogy but I wanted my son to know where his roots were its hard to keep up spanish traditions in America but hopeful he will always remember them. I was born in Havana, Cuba. The areas that I am researching are in Cuba: Pinar del Rio, Consolacion del sur, Bahía Honda, La Prieta, Bauta, San Francisco de Paula, Guanabacoa, Santa Clara The Areas in Spain: Asturias, Parres, Llanes, Peñamellera Alta, Puertas de Cabrales, Congas de Onis. Names for Cuba: Bahia Honda-Socarrás, Cabezas,Acosta, Pérez, Rodríguez Consolación del Sur-Gutiérrez, La Rosa, González La Prieta-Socarrás Bauta-Gutiérrez, Socarrás, Pérez San Francisco de Paula-Coto, Mesa, Del Bao, Azanza, Fernández Santa María del Rosario-Azanza Guanabacoa- Jiménez, Fernández Santa Clara- Coto, Mesa Names for Spain/Asturias Parres-Gutiérrez, de la Vega, González, Mendoza, La Rosa, Junco Peñamellera Alta- de la Torre, Torres, Navarre, Noriega, Niembro Congas de Onis- de la Torre Puertas de Cabrales-de la Torre, Niembro Extra places I am looking: France-Socarrás México-Gutiérrez y González Info to trigger someones memory: I am a decendant of Carlos Prío Socarrás the last elected president of Cuba by way of the name Socarrás. I've made a few connections with people when I tell them this so thats why I put it on my page. Also on the Gutiérrez side in Cuba my GGGrandfather, Don Juan Gutiérrez y La Rosa had shares in a Tobacco farm near Consolación del Sur. He also had his workers live there along with his wife and 13 children. It was owned by a man named Cortinas but was burned during the War of Independance because they were from Asturias. Near Bahía Honda before Mariel there was a ranch owned by three brothers called Valentín, Jacinto, Bernandino Pérez y Rodríguez. They lived there with their families and worked the land. The ranch was called 'La Cruz' My Granduncle Luis Gutiérrez Socarrás lives in Bauta he is 81 years old. In his day he was a great business man. He owned many Carnicerías (butcher shops) and he called them "La Gloria" The main church that my family was "Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes" in Bauta. The main church in Spain is 'Santa María Magdalena de Parres' My family in San Francisco de Paula lived on the same street as Hemingway. My grandaunt worked for him for many years. Please if there might be a connection contact me by email... |
