Notes for Luther Ainsworth: from two separate sources his death is reported: One stating that he "died in the army Oct. 20, 1780" and the other that he was " killed by the Indians," no date. Both were correct. Colonel Brown, with a detachedment from Berkshire, marching up the Mohawk to relieve the New York frontier, was seduced into an ambush and slain, with forty-five of his men by a party of Indians and tories, who themselves were afterwards, and on the same day, defeated at Fox's Mills by Gen Van Rensselaer.-(see Diary of the Revolution.) Luther was one of the killed He enlisted from willbraham.
