The Capes family that I am interested in has lived in the county of Norfolk in England for about 250 years. Its origins are as yet unclear, but the family was centered upon the adjacent villages of Newton St Faiths and Horsham St. Faiths during the 1800s. There seems to be two related branches, one from each village which were likely to have been created around about 1725, however this is, as yet unproven.

The family name DEMMEN is very unusual and to my knowledge there is only one family existing in the United Kingdom. It should be relatively easy to find my ancestors - just find a DEMMEN in England and the chances are it will be one! There is however, no record for DEMMEN in the 1881 UK Census, even though bearers of the name have been discovered who should have been living at the time that the census was taken. There are lots of reasons why this could be so, but because of it there is a real difficulty in tracing the name. The farthest back that we can go at the moment is to Henry (Harry) Robert Demmen, who married Florence Ameila Burgess somewhere around 1907. We are in the process of researching Florence at the moment. We know Harry died in 1931 at the age of 44, which means he was born in 1886 or 87, where we don't know, but Scotland is a possibility. Little of the family history is known by the eldest relatives and few records of the family exist.

I would be most grateful for any information, and of course I will reciprocate where posssible.

Thank you in anticipation
