I am researching the Dempsey family of Newark, N.J. My great-great grandfather was John Dempsey. Married Mary (last name Ryan or Regan) and had 4 sons (Daniel, William, Edward P. (my ggf), and Patrick) by 1889. Mary shows as a widow by the 1900 census, so he died sometime between 1888/9 and 1900.
