| I have been researching the surname DeMerchant for the past 7 years. I have published a book "DeMerchants of New Brunswick" (Dec. 1997). Visit the DeMerchant web site at www.demerchant.com or click on the link below. Thus far all the DeMerchant's I've found are descendents of John Cuffman/Kaufman who changed his name in 1785 to DeMerchant. Cuffman was improper spelling for the German name "Kaufman" which translates to "merchant". Because of his Dutch roots he added "De" which means "the". He was living in Bath, Carleton County, New Brunswick, Canada. I would very much like to hear from other DeMerchants or DeMerchant descendents to see if I have included them in my book (14,500 individuals & 425 pages). I still have a few available. We completed a successful DeMerchant Reunion in Four Falls(over 400 attended), New Brunswick Aug. 1,2,3/03. I would like to see your coments if you were there. Our next DeMerchant reunion is scheduled for August 2008. Make plans now to be attend.Click on my e-mail link below to contact me. |
