Christened on 18 May 1839 at Christ Church at Hamilton Square. Sponsors were his parents. He was confirmed at Zion Church, Brodheadsville, PA on 8 March 1891. He and his wife lived near Saylorsburg, PA. He died at his home near Saylorsburg. His obit is in "The Morning Press," East Stroudsburg, Tuesday, 5 Nov 1918, p.5. His PA death certificate is #159069.

  Notes for WILLIAM MICHAEL MACKES:
"The baptism of William Mackes, along with his brother Isaiah on the same day,
appears in the records of Salem United Methodist Church, Bangor, PA. This
church was part of the "Monroe Circuit" which included Methodist churches in
Monroe County, including the old Methodist Episcopal Church at Saylorsburg
where he was probably baptized.

William Mackes was confirmed 8 March 1891 at Zion Lutheran Church at
Brodheadsville by Rev. R. H. Clair.

William never married and lived most of his life at Saylorsburg, PA. He was a
baker by trade for about 25 years, later taking up farming. He was a trustee
and steward of the Brick Evangelical Church at Saylorsburg.

William died in his home at Saylorsburg and was buried in Brick Church

Carrie Emma Mackes and Peter Adam Gruver were married by Rev. A. H. Hunsberger
(Northampton Co. marriage license #37542). Carrie operated a general store in
Sciota from 1900 to 1915. In 1915 she moved to Wind Gap where she operated a dry
goods and notions store. She was a member of St. Peter's Evangelical
United Brethren Church in Saylorsburg. She died at Evangelical Manor in
Philadelphia, PA. and was buried in Lakeview Cemetery at Saylorsburg.

"Eva Day Mackes was christened at Christ Church, Hamilton Square.

Eva Day Mackes was married to Oscar L. Balliet at East Stroudsburg by Rev. B.
F. Apple (Monroe Co. marriage license #2353 and records of St. John's Lutheran
Church, Stroudsburg, PA). In 1935 she was living at Saylorsburg, PA.

Eva attended Fairview Academy in Brodheadsville and became a school teacher in
the Ross and Eldred Township School Districts. She was a trustee of St. Peter's
Evangelical United Brethren Church, Saylorsburg. In 1967 she was living at
203 Center St., Nazareth, PA, where she was a member of St. John's UCC. She died
in the home of her granddaughter Mrs. Joanne Dinstel Joseph, 606 W. Union Blvd,
Bethlehem, and was buried in Hope Cemetery at Dryland Church by the Bartholomew
Funeral Home of Nazareth, PA.

last employed in the boiler shop of Penn-Dixie Cement Co., Nazareth, before
retiring.

Steward died in his home at Bath RD 1 and was buried in Hope Cemetery at

"Harry Francis Mackes was christened at Christ Lutheran Church.

Harry Francis Mackes and Edith Hagerman were married by Rev. B. F. Apple
(Monroe Co. marriage license #2086). They lived at 185 Clarmont Avenue in
East Stroudsburg. Harry was involved in the lumbering and bridge building
business for 40 years, retiring in 1946. He served two terms as Monroe County
Commissioner 1932 - 1940. He was a member of East Stroudsburg Grace Lutheran
Church.

Harry died in the Cherry Valley Nursing Home and was
buried in Mt. Zion Cemetery by the Lanterman Funeral Home of East Stroudsburg.
