He married (1) KATHERINA LEIDNER 03 March 1851 in Easton, Northampon County, PA, daughter of JOSEPH LELDNER and MARIA. She was born 23 September 1823 in Massbach, Wurtenberg, Germany, and died 26 March 1866 in Phillipsburg, Warren County, New Jersey. He married (2) DOROTHEA RIEGELEIN 27 October 1866 in Easton, Northampon County, PA. She was born 18 October 1842 in Launactt, Bavaria, Germany, and died 26 January 1929 in Phillipsburg, Warren County, New Jersey.

29 April 1854 - Petitioned for U.S. citizenship at Northampton County Courthouse

20 August 1856 - Prior to Albert's naturalization being awarded he had to bring a witness to attest to the fact the he had signed a declaration of intention to become a citizen: "In the matter of the Application of Albert Hans to become naturalized --- Ludwig Gebhard of the Borough of Easton, being duly sworn says: On the 29th of April 1854, I subscribed and swore to my declaration of intention to become a citizen of the United States in the Office of the Prothonotary at Easton. Mr. John A. Innes was the Prothonotary. At the same time with me, Joseph Goth, Martin Goth, and Albert Hans made their declarations. I was present in the Office of the Prothonotary
and saw Albert Hans sign and swear to his declarations. He, the said Albert Hans, did not take out a certified copy of his declaration because he had not the money to pay the fees of the Prothonotary. He left the certified copy in the Prothonotay's Office with Mr. Innes. I am certain of the date because I fix [sic] it from my own papers."


Likewise on 28th of August 1856, Albert brought Joseph Goth and Martin Goth to also attest "that the said Albert Hans did then and there sign and swear to a declaration of intention in the ususal form, but did not then take out a certidfied copy thereof, having no money with him to pay for it, that they are certain as to the date because they made their own declarations at the same time."

28 Jan 1865 - Wounded near Warnersville, VA - According to Declaration for Original Invalid Pension, "...he dislocated his left ankle and fractured his left leg by his horse falling on him; his command was on a reconnaissance after the rebels, the roads were frozen and icy, and his horse smooth-shod, with no blacksmith along to sharpen horse-shoes, and his horse slipped and fell on said leg and ankle with the results stated; in consequence thereof he is now greatly disabled his said leg and ankle, because of weakness and pains therein."

16 Sept 1890 - Moved into National Military Home, Dayton, Ohio leaving Dora destitute; after numerous letters to the Military Pension Board explaining Albert's "desertion," Dora was awarded half of Albert's pension. He resided in this Home until his death in 1906.

23 Jun 1905 - In General Affidavit to Pension Board requesting that she receive half of Albert's pension, Dora states, "My husband deserted me on Jun 18th, 1877 before he deserted me he sold the property we owned at that time and all he paid me was $80.00, and the balanced he took with him He had no reason whatever to leave and I am not possessed of any property real or personal, no money in bank, stocks, bonds or any other investments. I am entirely dependent upon my son for support and if it wasn't [sic] for my son I would be compelled to go to the County House." Dora couldn't write, so this letter, as well as many others, was transcribed by a Justice of the Peace. Her address is listed as 188 Sitgreaves St., Phillipsburg, NJ.

18 May 1906 - died at the age of 63 yrs. Cause of death - cardiac hypertrophy and dilation, and chronic parechymatous nephritis. In layman's terms - enlargement and stretching of the heart and kidney disease.

14 Jan 1908 - In General Affidavit to Pension Board requesting a Widow's Pension, Dora states (statement copied exactly as originally), "...In relation to Our Separation [sic] - My Husband was like a great many other old soldiers. he couldn't work, became Restless went to Philadelphia to live with his daughter. Then he would return home for a while and finally [sic] he got it into his head to go to the Soldiers Home at Dayton O [sic] he would come home Every three or four months. Stay a little while and then go Back. he finally Died and was brought home and Buried. No Application was Ever made for a Divorce. never thought of it. Warren Co., New Jersey is the only County I lived in - and to get a Certificate - that no divorce was applied for would Cost me Several Dollars and I haven't [sic] got the money."
