OBIT: "Frank M. Hans Hangs Himself in His Attic
Frank M. Hans, a tailor about 60 years old, committed suicide at his residence on West Church street on Saturday. He was found hanging in the attic a little after 5 o'clock in the afternoon by his son, Jacob Hans, who had failed to find his father, mistrusted something wrong, and made a search of the premises. Hans had last been seen at about 9 o'clock in the morning, and from the appearance of the remains when discovered, he evidently committed the rash act shortly after that hour. The position of the suicide was such that he was choked to death while in an almost sitting posture. Hans' wife died some two months ago, since which time the unfortunate man has been despondent, and to his neighbors intimated that he contemplated ending his sorrow by hanging. At times, too, it is said, he indulged excessively in the use of stimulants.
Coroner Schultz was notified and held an inquest with the following jury: C.E. Schleicher, Joseph Moses, J.A. Seibel, C. A. Denning, William Noding and H.R. Miller. The verdict rendered was to the effect that the deceased came to his death by suicide while afflicted with temporary aberration of the mind.
The deceased was born in Germany and had been a resident of Easton for a quarter of a century. he is survived by Jacob Hans, his son, and by an adopted daughter."
