Dr. Joseph Ridgeway and Mary Smith had the following children Ann Ridgeway was born in Clerkwell London, St James Parrish, England. It is not known with any degree of assurance that Ann Ridgeway married Dr. George Gilmer, however , it is known that he married the daughter of Dr. Ridgeway of London. They came to Williamsburg, Va in 1731 where Dr. Gilmer helped manage the affairs of a land company and practiced medicine.
His wife died soon after and he married Mary Peachy Walker, daughter of Thomas Walker of King and Queen Co., VA. This makes it more than probable that Samuel Ridgeway was a brother of Dr George Gilmer's first wife. Dr Gilmer named his first son by his second wife, Mary Peachy Walker, Peachy Ridgeway Gilmer.He and his second had a second son, George Gilmer, Jr.
