Researching the family line of DERRY. Last confirmed ancestors lived in Fayette County (George's Twp), Pennsylvania.

Bazil DERRY (1789-1879) married to Mary Polly SCHULTZ about the year 1812. They had 5 children: Jacob DERRY (1816-1883) m Nancy HARTMAN; Barbara DERRY (1818-1882) m John Cummings GATES; Cathren DERRY (1825-1904) m Samuel HUNTLEY; Charetta (Chariety) Phebe DERRY (1834-1903) m George W. HARTMAN; and Lavina DERRY (1836-1927) m William Gabriel EMME.

Bazil's mother was MARY DERRY, a/k/a "old Moll Derry, the fortune-teller". The family reportedly came out of Loudoun Co., VA and Harper's Ferry area of WV.

There is a JACOB DERRY in German Twp. Tax Records for Fayette Co. in 1785. Currently trying to confirm if he is the father, as Bazil named his first son, Jacob (German naming pattern).

BAZIL is listed in the 1820 PA Census as Head of Household. His mother, MARY, an unknown woman named PHOEBE (Hannah) DERRY, and a brother/cousin named JACOB DERRY are also listed as Heads of Households at the same time and area. The name BAZIL/BASIL was carried on in the family as follows:

JACOB DERRY (1795-1877)(brother/cousin in 1820 PA Census), went west after the 1820 Census and settled in Indiana, then on to Adams County, Illinois where he settled down. His wife was Rachel BRIGHT (1797-1860). They had 8 children. The second-born was named BASIL as follows:

BASIL B. DERRY (1860-1952)was born to the 2nd marriage. He married FANNIE E. FROST (1870-1943)in Paloma, Adams Co., Ill.
Both died in Galesburg, Knox Co., Illinois and are buried at Memorial Park, Galesburg, Ill.

JACOB DERRY's (1795-1877) first son, PHILIP DERRY (1817-1853) married CYNTHIA PRIBBLE in Illinois and traveled west to Jackson County, Oregon around 1850. They had 3 children that were left orphaned at a young age: JACOB DEARY (1846-1898)died in Owyhee Co., Idaho, EDNA DEARY/DAIRY (1849-1943)died in San Francisco, CA, and BASIL B. DEARY/DERRY (born 1851) death unknown.
