My folks came from the North Platt River Valley, close to Chinney Rock in western Nebraska. They settled in Ecko, Texas, near Orange, Texas in 1932. My grandmother ran a boardinghouse next to the Southern Pacific Railroad, where my mother worked in the Boardinghouse cafe, while my dad worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad. My dad's name was James Monroe "Swede" Derrick and my mothers name was Ruth Elaine (Larson) Derrick. My dad's dad was Walter Ernest Derrick and his mother was Mary Eva O'Leary. My mother's dad was Ira Thomas Larson and her mother was Suzanne Amanda Mann. I was born in Houston, Texas on May 11,1944.
