I am presently trying to research both mine and my wifes family background. My name was originaly spelled DYRCZ and my aunt changed it when she started school and didnt want to be different. My grandfather and grandmother came here from Poland somewhere around 1904. My aunt was born in Nyack, NY and her brothers and sisters were all born in St Joseph MO. On my mothers side, one great grandmother , Mary Ann Miller came from Millersb urg, Ohio, and her paternal grandfather (Robert Oliver Wiziarde) came as a young lad from Alsace-Lorainne, France.
On my wifes side Her paternal family seemed to be railroad people mostly. Her maiden name was Scott. Her great great grandfather was Creed Clay Scott who at one time was mayor or Creston, Iowa. Her maternal great grandfather came from Germany. His name was Glick (actually Gluck with the dots above it) He was a blacksmith and settled in Avenue City MO.
The Derc side of the family had a small reunion last year and will attempt to repeat it often. It includes BELZ, SOKOLASKI, HUNT, WALKER, BELCHER, BASS, BRIGHT, WEST families the children and grandchildren of the present elder generation keep bringing into the group.
