Background
The Liberal Government of Lloyd George introduced the Old
Age Pensions Act (1908) for the
The claimant completed a PRO form naming the townland of
their birth, parent’s names and other relations. The PRO then wrote on this form after
searching the 1841/1851 Census Returns, the claimant’s age in 1841 or 1851 The claimant was then provided with evidence
of their birth or right to claim through the Pension Committees of their Local
Councils enabling them to proceed with their claim for an Old Age Pension. The OAP information was collected in the
1908-1921 period and provides genealogical details of people born in the
1820-1850 period.
