James' birthday is listed in the Clonmany parish register, Volume 1, Page 224. His godparents were listed as William Doherty and Catherine Lynch.

At the time of the 1901 Census James lived with his parents in his Grandparents (John and Annie Doherty) home. Worked as a farm laborer; age 18. He could read but not write.

According to a John Doherty of Bunnacrick, Clonmany; James (nickname - Jay or Jay Jay)
and his sister Magery (nickname - MayJay) both lived in the family home in Bunacrick until their deaths. Jay was reportedly 85 years old when he died on July 14, 1961. He was found dead in bed according to the parish register. His residence was listed as Binion. The house there is still standing at this writing (January 1999). It is located all the way at the top of the Bunacrick road behind a new house which has been built there.

There is a pool in the Clonmany river called "Jay's hole". This is the location where Jay Bradley did most of his fishing and otter trapping (i.e. poaching). The location is well know to the town locals to this day.
