In the 1900 Census which was compile on June 27th. Betty. Benson was living with children in Galva Township, Henry County Illinois. The family was as follows: Betty Benson was head of the household. She was 45 years old (born in April 1855) and she, her mother and her father were all born in Sweden. She emigrated to the U.S. in 1871 and had been living in the country for 29 years. Her occupation was listed as NLS 0-2-3 (I think this may have been the predecessor to Social Security, i.e. National Labor Scheme). Betty's children were: Ernest L., age 20 (born August 1879), Assistant Bookkeeper in a Factory. Mabel G., age 17 (born January 1883), a Compositor. Pearl A., Age 14 (born July 1885), a Student Maude F., Age 11 (born June 1888), a Student Grace R., Age 4 (born October 1895), a Child All the children were born in Illinois. Based on Grace's age, Betty's husband died between 1886-1900.

Betty was still living in Galva, Henry Co., Illinois. She was a widow who was 64 years old and living with her youngest daughter Grace R. who was 23. Betty was a dressmaker, which she did at home and Grace was a stenographer in an office.
BETTY BENSON IN THE 1930 CENSUS
In 1930 Betty was listed as Head of household. She lived by herself at 8 Neiley street. Her house was valued at $2000 and she had a radio. She was 69 and reported that she had been naturalized in 1877. She was a widow and no longer working.
