A banquet was held in their honour in Fort Macleod in August. The following month, in recognition of their service in the North-West Rebellion, all 113 recruits received the North-West Medal. Each member also received the Rebellion Scrip, eligible for either an $80 bonus or 320 acres of homestead land. Most chose the land, mostly in the Pincher Creek-Fort Macleod area, although some also settled around Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, and Maple Creek. The homesteads allowed ex-Rangers to build their own lives. Several RMR veterans, such as John Herron, L.G. de Veber, and Dave Wylie, even went into politics. They represented their home ridings in the federal parliament, and in the legislatures of Alberta and Saskatchewan".
