Gabriel deVeber I (son of deVeber and Mary Ann D'Vebre) was born Bet. 1731 - 1735 in Switzerland138, and died July 26, 1810 in Maugerville, Sunbury County, N.B., Canada139. He married (1) Mary Burke. He married (2) Mary Johnston on January 13, 1766140, 141.

Comments: According to the deVeber family history notes Gabriel was the only son of a field Marshall in the Swiss Army who was a military attache at the court of Marie Antoinette who became Queen of France in 1774. A ring given by the Queen remains in the family. Lady Burke was said to be of Irish Peerage.
Col. G. deV. (U.E.L.) left England in the 1750's. Joined the British army soon after his arrival in America. Married 1st cousin Lady Mary (de Veber).
Re his mother: (note from George Angus deVeber) We know his mother was alive in N.Y. in 1783-178-.

Will: In the Name of God Amen, I Gabriel d'Veber of the Parish of Maugerville in the County of Sunbury and Province of New Brunswick, Esquire, being of perfect mind and memory, blessed by God, but being weak in Body and mindful of the uncertainty of life, and being desirous of disposing by Will the property which it has pleased Almighty God to bless me with. I do this --- day of ---- in the year of our Lord One Thousand eight hundred and nine make and publish this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form following, that is to say, in the first place, I recommend my soul to the Lord who gave it, and my Body to the Ground from whence it was taken, to be buried in a decent Christian Like manner at the discretion of my Executors hereafter named, in sure and certain hope of the Resurrection to everlasting life through Jesus Christ our blessed maker and Redeemer.
And as to my worldly Goods and Estate wherewith it has pleased the Lord to bless me, I give and bequeath unto my Beloved Wife MARY D'VEBER all my Real and Personal Estate and Property of every nature and kind within the Province of New Brunswick aforesaid for her use and profit during her natural life if she should so long remain my widow. But in case she should at any time after my decease intermarry, then it is my will that she shall retain no more than her dower allowed by a Law, in that case made and provided of this Province.
Item, I give and bequeath unto my beloved son GABRIEL D'VEBER, Esq., the sum of Five pounds having provided for him theretofore in as ample and full a manner as I am now able to Leave my other Children.
Item, I give and bequeath unto my beloved son JOHN D'VEBER one equal Seventh part of all my real and personal Estate and Property that shall be remaining after the decease of my Wife aforesaid and to his Heirs and Assigns foreever.
Item, I give and bequeath unto my beloved son HENRY D'VEBER and to his heirs and Assigns for ever, one equal Seventh part of all my real and personal Estate and Property that shall be remaining after the decease of my wife aforesaid.
Item, I give and bequeath unto my beloved Daughter, ANN CAMPBELL, wife of Walter Campbell, Five pounds having provided for her heretofore.
Item, I give and bequeath unto my beloved Daughter, SARAH MENZIES wife of Alexander Menzies, Five pounds having provided for her heretofore.
Item, I give and bequeath unto my beloved Son SAMUEL D'VEBER Five pounds having provided for him heretofore.
Item, I give and bequeath unto my beloved son BENJAMIN D'VEBER and to his Heirs and Assigns for ever one equal Seventh part of all my Real and personal Estate that be remaining after the decease of my Wife as aforesaid.
Item, I give and bequeath unto my beloved Daughter MARY D'VEBER and to her Heirs and Assigns for ever one equal Seventh part of all my Real and personal Estate that be remaining after the decease of my Wife as aforesaid.
Item, I give and bequeath unto my beloved Daughter HENRIETTA D'VEBER and to her Heirs and Assigns for ever one equal Seventh part of all my Real and personal Estate that be remaining after the decease of my Wife as aforesaid.
Item, I give and bequeath unto my beloved son ISAAC or CLAUDIUS ISAAC D'VEBER and to his Heirs and Assigns for ever one equal Seventh part of all my Real and personal Estate that shall be Remaining after the decease of my Wife as aforesaid.
Item, I give and bequeath unto my beloved son ABRAHAM or FREDERIC ABRAHAM D'VEBER and to his Heirs and Assigns for ever one equal Seventh part of all my Real and personal Estate that shall be Remaining after the decease of my Wife as aforesaid.
Item, I give and bequeath unto my beloved Daughter, ANGELINA SOPHIA D'VEBER and to her Heirs and Assigns for ever one equal Seventh part of all my Real and personal Estate that shall be Remaining after the decease of my Wife as aforesaid.
It is my further wish and desire that in case my said wife should intermarry as aforesaid, my remaining real and personal Estate and property after deducting my said Wife's Thirds (?) shall be sold, and the monies arising therefrom shall be equally divided after paying the Legacies before mentioned among my seven Children that is to say JOHN D'VEBER, HENRY D'VEBER, MARY D'VEBER, HENRIETTA D'VEBER, CLAUDIUS ISAAC D'VEBER, FREDERIC ABRAHAM D'VEBER and ANGELINA SOPHIA D'VEBER.
And after the decease of my Wife aforesaid the remainder of my real and personal Estate and property shall be also sold and the monies arising from the sale shall be divided in like manner as aforesaid among my said last mentioned Children.
And it is my further will and desire that all my just debts and funeral charges be first paid and Lastly I do hereby ordain and appint my beloved Wife Mary D'Veber my Executrice and my well beloved friend Elijah Milner Esq., Executor of this my Last Will and Testament, revoking and disannulling all other Wills, Testaments, Legacies and Executors, heretofore by me made and bequeathed.
In Witness whereof of the said Gabriel D'Veber to this my Last Will and Testament have Signed, Sealed, Published and Declared by the said (signed) Gabriel D'Veber and for his last Will and Testament in presence of us who were present and the sealing and signing thereof.

Be it remembered that on the fifth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ten personally came and appeared before me William Hubbard Esq. Surrogate for County in his Majesty's Province of New Brunswick, Joseph Clarke, Esq., Joseph Clarke Esq., junior and Lucretia A. Clarke and having been duly sworn made Oath that the same Gabriel DeVeber Esq. signed the written instrument hereunto annexed purporting to be the Will of the said Gabriel Deveber, bearing blank day of the Month in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and nine and heard him publish the same as his Last Will and Testament. That at the time thereof the said Gabriel Deveber was of sound disposing mind and memory to the best of the knowledge and belief of them the beponents and that their names subscribed to the said Will are of their respective hands writing which they subscribed as Witnesses to the said Will in the Testators' presence.

New Brunswich/Sunbury County Be it remembered that on the seventeenth day of September in the year of Lord one thousand eight hundred and ten personally came and appeared before me William Hubbard Esq. Surrogate for Sunbury County aforesaid Elijah (Milner, Esquire of Magerville in Sunberry County aforesaid one of the Executors of the within written Will of Gabriel D'Veber Esq. and was duly sworn to the true execution and performance of the said Will by the Oath of an Executor as by Law required; before me Wm. Hubbard Surrogate. ====== Sr. I have before me yr. esteemed favour of 23 Inst. The Caution you give me Concerning our Situation is just and you may depend that I use every means in my power to baffle any surprize from ye Ennemy be therefore easy on that head. and depend that no pains whatever shall be Spared. in order tyo prove his Excellency the General, that we are dettermined to shew ourSelves in some measure worthy of the trust he has reposed in us. We Landed here monday morning and altho I have not had an opportunitty to acquaint our friends with oru intentions, yet notwithstanding we have been Joyn'd by 40 brave fellows, who with the rest the sailers and marines. belongting to the Experiment are employ'd in erecting ye works, which I hope will be made definsible (at Least sufficently so) by the Last of this week. when i hope to wait on Coll. Balfour and you to give an acct. of our Conduct & Situation. mean time shd. be much obliged to you to procure 50 blanketts more for the New-Comers, as those I received for the use of Company now with the troops. are partly used for those men that are come in since our arrival. I have sent 2 prisoners with Mr. Cloud. the Q.M. I believe they are Suspicious persons altho they Surrender'd of their own accord. The Quarter Master will inform you of their present and past Conduct.
