Includes NotesNotes for James Deveber Neales Russell:
"...her husband was named after the deVebers and was a son of Rev. James Neales, Rector of Gagetown for many years" (contained in a letter held by G.A. deVeber, Toronto, attests that James Russel is unrelated to the deVeber family; letter is addressed "Dear Mrs McKaye", undated.

The following is taken from the August 1951 issue of the N.B. Telephone News entitled BIOGRAPHY - James Deveber Neales Russel, by S.O. Keirstead.

"James Deveber Neales Russell was born March 25, 1889 at Summer Hill, Queens County, New Brunswick, a son of James W. and Margaret J. Russell. Before entering the employ of the New Brunswick Telephone Company Limited he worked at farming and in 1909, in company with James C. Scott, later also an employee fo the New Brunswick Telephone Company, he decided to see the world and went to work on rebuilding of the Canadian Pacific Telegraph line from Fairville to Fredericton Junction. By 1910 they had travelled across the continent and were employed by the Canadian Pacific Telegraph Company in British Columbia from where they went on to California coming east by way of Denver Colorado, in which city they worked for a time or the Colorado Light and Power Company, then on to Texas working for the South Eastern Telephone Company. When the First World War broke out Jim enlisted and served overseas seeing much of Europe while there. A few years ago Mr and Mrs Russell decided to make their home at Nerepis, on the banks of the Nerepis River, a tributary of the Saint John River entering the Saint John just above Westfield...it is easy to understand why Jim who has visited so many interesting places on two continents, chose the beautiful Nerepis for his home. Mr. Russel became employed with the New Brunswick Telephone Company Limited as a lineman on May 3 1921 with intervals as a temporary foreman until May 14, 1929 when he was appointed a line foreman until his retirement August 1, 1950. J.D.N. Russell married Miss Myrtle Barton of Saint John. Mr. Russell is a member of the New Brunswick Chapter Number 51 Telephone Pioneers of America and he and Mrs. Russell are faithful in attendance at the Pioneer Gatherings." (entered by P.Clermont for G.A. deVeber's family project - August 15, 2000)

NOTE: may have a second wife, Annie Wilson, Death 1933 same source - need to verify by email to davmc@nbnet.nb.ca (PMC) * Sepember 11, 2000: Reply to my email: "I never knew why my uncle (Jim Russell) was named James Deveber Neales. To my knowledge there was no family connection. There were and still are Devebers in the village of Gagetown area and possibly there was a doctor or minister that he was named after."
