| Mathias Duane (Devine) was born in Ireland in 1805, he married Bridget McCann (parents Owen McCann and Cecelia King) c. 1838, they immigrated in 1852, Three of thier children were born in Ireland; Catherine 1839, Patrick 1845 and Ellen 1847, Mathew was born in 1854 WVa, Jane 1855 and Mary 1856 in Kentucky. By 1870 the were settled in Saint Louis Mo. on the Old North Side at 2414 Broadway. They appear on the 1870 Census in Paducah Ky. They are listed withe a John ,age 61 and a Martin Duane age 12. Mathias was 63 at this time, so I assume John was a brother. All the males are show working for the railroad, form the 12 year old to the 63 year old. The appear in St Louis city directories in 1875.According to the State of Missouri Adjutant General's OfficeWe have a very colorful realtive. Mathew Devine was in the Civil War and the Indian War. He was with Gibbon's 7th Infantryat the Little Big Horn, and was injured at the Battle of the Big Hole against the Nez Perce Indians.
