Helen Emeline Davis was the first child of Joseph and Hester (Worth) Davis. She married Wilbur Jacob Earnest 17 Aug 1890. Wilbur was killed in a horse and buggy accident in Indiana. Helen took her four children, who were listed as being born in Nebraska on the 1900 census, to Ellendale, ND where she taught school. School teachers were paid more in the wilderness ( among the Indians). All four of Helen's children were educated in Ellendale at the high school and college - which was called normal school- a college for teachers. Helen taught for 45 years.
