Here is a brief history of our ancestors: The Pride of the Narváez Family… Our ancestors (Papá Juan and Mamá Grisselia) were born and raised in a small section of Vega Baja, Puerto Rico called Quebrada Arenas. There, they remained close to their parents and had their eldest children. In an effort to become more independent and raise his family, Papá Juan accepted an invitation to stay in a small house in exchange for working a farm. He worked very hard and proved to be an exemplary provider for his children. His life, however, came to an end at a young age and left his family with a tremendous loss. Considering that Mamá Grisselia was just devastated without being able to provide for the family herself, the eldest children took on the responsibility of providing for the family and assisting the young ones to excel. It was at this time that several of the elder children moved to the United States (Conneticut, New York and Chicago, Illinois) to seek employment. In the interim, Mamá Grisselia took the rest of the children and moved to a private home in Pugnado Adentro, a section in Vega Baga and worked to survive. Eventually, with the financial help offered by her children, Mamá was able to buy a house in Parcelas Amadeo in Vega Baja. There she found happiness knowing her family had a roof over their head and she owed no one, but God. Although we had humble beginnings, and experienced tragic moments, we should be proud of the sacrifice and the love from our family. Embrace your roots and continue being proud of your heritage. Our ancestors and your descendants deserve it. May the Lord bless our family and may the Narváez Family pride live on.
