| We have been researching the Diederichs Family Tree in South Africa over the last decade. The family originated from Jacob Diederichs who came to South Africa, as a soldier, in 1727. He came from Bergen uyt den Heyde, near Hamburg in the modern Germany. It is our believe that the name Diederichs originated from the name "Theodorich". Theodorich was a leader from a Germanic tribe called the Ostrogoths who , according to historical records, originally came from the modern Scandanavia. The tribe then moved to Italy (part of the old Roman Empire). Theodorich later became the ruler of the Ostrogothic Kingdom of Italy. Any information about the Diederichs Family Tree in South Africa and elsewhere in the world and any historical facts, will be appreciated. |
