I am conducting research in progress on the HICKENLOOPER (HECKENLEIB/HECKENLIABLE/HECKENLIVELY), HAWKINS, HANKINS, CLEVENGER, HORNER, KING, PETERSON and DIKIS families.
Andrew HICKENLOOPER (originally HECKENLIABLE then HECKENLEIB) arrived in America from Germany in 1754.
Julia Ann HAWKINS entered the family in 1821, marrying Thomas HICKENLOOPER. The HAWKINS family was known in Maryland as far back as 1685.
Sarah HANKINS married John KING in 1828, who produced Ann Eliza KING, who later married Simon B. HICKENLOOPER (1859). The HANKINS family came from New Jersey (1704) and later Virginia.
The CLEVENGERS (Jane CLEVENGER, mother of Sarah HANKINS and Mary CLEVENGER, wife of Thomas HANKINS) came from England originally, arriving in America some time around the 1660s. They settled in New York and then New Jersey, later travelling to Virginia and Ohio.
Deliverance HORNER married the grandfather of Jane CLEVENGER, (George CLEVENGER). Her family stems from Yorkshire, England (in the early 1600s). They settled in New Jersey.
Ann Eliza KING's (wife of Simon B. HICKENLOOPER) family was also from England. Her great-grandfather, John KING, was born in England around 1745. His son, Volintine KING was brn in Delaware.
John E. PETERSON married M. HCKENLOOPER. His father, John A. PETERSEN arrived in America in 1857 from Norway.
On my paternal side, DIKIS families flourished in Illinois in the early 1900s, perhaps coming from Kentucky, Tennessee, and Arkansas.
