After wife Mariam Catherine Dillon BAILEY died in JAN 1912, at 68 yrs., Amos returned to visit St. Lawrence Co., NY and Guthrie Co., IW. He died at 68 yrs., back in FL in 1913. The obituary in 'DeFuniak Springs Breeze' read that he 'had been in bad health ever since his return here last fall from an extended trip though the North, but at times hope was expressed that he would recover. He was buried, next to his wife, in the DeFuniak Springs Cemetery'.

From McAllen, TX, The Monitor, June 29, 2001. About volunteering to fight, even thought he was a Mexican citizen (until 1994). He landed on Utah beach, 3 days after D-Day, with 357th Regiment, Company A, of the 90th Division, US Army.

Hosea served in the Civil War, Co. E, 29th Volunteer Infantry from Iowa (Union), with brother P.D. He lived with Mae Rose and C H for 18 years. She said that he helped her raise the children. He died in Montana, buried in Polson. Survived by younger brother, John Fremont DILLON of Arnold, NE., the last of George's children.

In a letter written October,1857 to his step-brother George DILLON from St.Louis, MO he comments about his failures in business; his not being able to settle in one place for long; and his desire to go south to look for new employment. He mentions that he had been to the Kansas Territory in March of 1886 and found it a 'wild place'. He would die alone two years later, in New Orleans in DEC 1859, at age 27 yrs.

Wells to George DILLON (April 16,1860 - received April 28,1860) "Dear Brother" - bemoaning the death of brother, Elias Stone DILLON, in December 1859, in New Orleans "... away from friends, poor fellow had no home... He wrote me November last from New Orleans informing me of his sickness. Said he had been sick for almost a year with chronic diorreah, of which he died." (at 27 yrs.) ... and how few of the family is still alive. (George died 7 months later, at 50 yrs.)

Letter to Augustine Wells DILLON (he was 24 yr.)from A. H. WELLS (Aug. 5,1861) "Dear Nephew" - about the mortgage that his now dead father (for 10 mo.), George, owed to him. He mentions how sad he was with his passing - "I have never thought there was any thing left for me to live for, until my oldest child is quite sick. I now find that I have a great deal to live for....". He offered to settle for half. ".. you had better make arrangements to pay it as soon as you can in order to save trouble ... but if I should drop off suddenly my administrator might make trouble that you and I would never have." (He was 43 yrs. when he wrote this)
