(a) McCager's gravesite, in the Kingery Cemetery, Lawrence Co., OH, is the final resting place for McCager, a family member of probably the earliest Dillons to Lawrence Co.Though he appears in the 1840 Lawrence Co. Census, family stories suggest he may have arrived as early as 1831, when he crossed the Ohio River near Millersport(Millers), settling on a plot of ground on Greasy Ridge in Windsor Twp., the terminus of a long journey from Franklin Co., VA.Here he commenced the arduous task of building a home, starting a farm and raising a family in the wilderness.McCager was the son of Samuel James Dillon(c1758-1836) of Franklin Co., VA and the husband of Mary "Polly" Callicoat(c1790-1874), buried near her husband. |
