(a) William Cyrus was the 4th child and 2nd eldest son of McCager Dillon and Mary "Polly" Callicoat. He was born in Franklin Co., VA, but resettled with his parents and siblings to Lawrence Co., in the early 1830s on Greasy Ridge in Windsor Twp. He first married Elizabeth "Eliza" Pinkerman in 1840 and with whom had, at least six children. After Elizabeth's death about 1852, he married Elizabeth Sowards in 1855, with whom he had nine additional children prior to Elizabeth's death in 1873. Elizabeth had previously been married to Wilson B. Lewis with whom she had five children. With William previous six children and Elizabeth previous five children, William and Elizabeth had a combined eleven children before having nine additional children of their own. William's third wife, Mary Jane McConnell, he married in 1875. No information has been received indicating how many children living at home, Mary Jane inherited as William's third wife. The 1870 census lists eight children at home with an additional, Nettie Alberta, born in 1873. The 1880 census lists only two children and a granddaughter. Presumably after the death of Elizabeth Sowards Dillon, the younger children of William and Elizabeth were 'farmed out' to relatives, such as was the case with Nettie Alberta Dillon, the last child of William Cyrus Dillon. William Cyrus and Mary Jane McConnell had no children of their own. It is interesting to note that the lives of William Cyrus Dillon and his last child, Nettie Alberta Dillon, spanned 138 years, 1817 to 1955. William Cyrus lies here buried in the Kingery Cemetery, next to his second wife, Elizabeth Sowards Dillon.
