(a) Born, about 1790 in Virginia or North Carolina, the daughter of William Callicoat and Elizabeth Ashworth, Mary married McCager Dillon in 1808 in Franklin Co., Virginia. Of the eight children recorded for McCager and Mary Dillon, only the youngest, Seymore, has been confirmed to have been born in Lawrence Co., OH, in 1832, when McCager and Mary resettled to Greasy Ridge in Windsor Twp. The 1860 Census lists Mary Dillon, age 67, living(alone) adjacent to John W. Dillon, Ceymore Dillon, Elizabeth Dillon McMahan, William C. Dillon and Peter Dillon, these latter five probably being her children. There is a
tale passed along through the Dillons which suggests Mary Callicoat was a 'full-bloodied' indian. However, no record has been located to confirm this. However, of comparable interest might be the circumstances which spawned this interesting tale. Mary lies here in the Kingery Cemetery next to her husband, McCager Dillon.
