(b) William S. Dillon, described elsewhere on this site, married Rachel (Amanda) Reed in 1864, perhaps in the Gibson Chapel in nearby Scottown, or at the residence of the bride or groom, located on a nearby hill adjacent to this gravesite in the Scottown Cemetery. Rachel Reed or Read(1835-1884) was the daughter of John and Elizabeth Read from PA. Though Rachel and sister, Jane, show the 'Reed' spelling in their records, the 1860 Windsor Twp., Lawrence Co., OH Census shows the spelling as 'Read' for their family. John and Elizabeth Read resided on a farm adjacent to the farm of the groom's family, Vincent and Hannah Dillon. Rachel's name 'Amanda' is shown on her death certificate. Her sister, Jane married William's oldest brother, Henry, also shown on this site. Rachel died from the complications of breast cancer in 1884. Her story is briefly described in her obituary, shown on the Lawrence Co. website.
