34-75) Dillon Cemetery, Lawrence Co., Ohio
(a) This old oak stump, approxmately five feet in diameter, is located in the middle of what may have been a more prominent cemetery, now reduced to a few stones, several remain with legible inscriptions. It is located and unfenced in the middle of a cultivated field just north of the intersection of Rte 775 with Greasy Ridge Road, in Windsor Twp., a couple of hundred yards to the east. The stump is perhaps a remnant of the virgin forest our forefathers encountered in the late 1700s and early 1820s when they first resettled into this region. Emily Dillon, Harriet S. Dillon and Louisa J. Dillon are three individuals whose stones have been identified. Harriet S. and Louisa J. were most probably the daughters of Squire Jerimiah Dillon Jr. and Mary Elizabeth Thornton. Squire Jerimiah was the son of Squire Dillon from Franklin Co., Virginia. Squire Dillon was known to have been in this area in the late 1820s, the only Dillon listed with the 1830 Lawrence Co. Federal Census.
