(b) Henry Dillon(1843-1934), here pictured with his grandson, John Richard
Pickens(1902-1987), was the fifth child of Hugh Dillon(abt1810-abt1897) and
Catherine Schultz of Monroe Co., Ohio and Pleasants Co., West Virginia.
Young John was son of Thomas A. Pickens and Jennie Bell
Dillon(1870-1960). It is believed Thomas and Jennie Bell lived most of their
lives in Monroe Co., Ohio. Henry married first married Sara Ann Clegg with
whom this couple had three children; Jennie Bell, Chloe Isaphine and John
Dillon. Henry later married Rachel J. Denbow. This union produced, at least,
two additional children. Henry was a member of the infamous 116th Regiment,
Ohio Volunteer Infantry, as was his brother Jacob, his uncle, Peter Dillon and
several cousins. This Regiment was organized at Gallipolis and Marietta, Ohio,
in September and October, 1862, to serve three years. It was mustered out of
service June 14, 1865, in accordance with orders from the War Department.
After serving the three years, Henry declared his age to be 18 at the time of his
discharge. The official list of battles in which this Regiment bore an honorable
part is extensive and is an interesting and exciting series of events in and of
themselves. (photo courtesy of Nancy Glosser at: nglosser@iron.net)
