201-236) Samuel Dillon(1839-1899)
(b) Samuel was the fourth eldest child of Hugh Dillon(abt1813-abt1897) and Catherine Schultz and the grandson of John Dillon(abt1785-1847) and Rachel Hamilton Dillon from Greene Co., PA. He was known to have lived much of his life in Jefferson Co., OH, though members of his family drifted to Tyler Co. and Pleasants Co., WV. Samuel first married Sarah Jane Scott in 1864 in the midst of the Civil War. This union produced, at least, seven children. Sarah Jane died about 1879 or 1880. Samuel remarried Mary Magdelyn Smith in 1883. To this union was born another seven children, including a son, Hugh, the third generation of this line to name a male child, Hugh Dillon. Samuel, died tragically in December of 1899 as a result of a railroad accident, near his home in Port Homer, Jefferson Co., OH. He was buried in the Sugar Grove Cemetery near Empire, Jefferson Co., OH. The location of the grave of Samuel's father, Hugh Dillon, has been mystery, though the most reliable story suggests and he may have died in Tyler Co., WV and have been buried near his original Monroe Co. home in Summit/Franklin Twps on the old Burkhardt farm east of Lewisville in a cemetery which has become known as the Hamilton Cemetery. Samuel's brother, also Hugh Dillon, is buried in the Clarington Cemetery, though the specific location of Hugh's grave has not been determined. (photo courtesy of Connie Grimm
