| Welcome. The progenitor of the Joseph Family was Daniel Joseph from Augusta Co., Va. Please take a look at "Descendants of Daniel Joseph". If you can add to or correct any information, let me hear from you. Daniel Joseph served in the American Revolution from Augusta County, Va. in Capt. Patterson's company of Augusta militia. He also contributed supplies to the troops--44 1/2 gallons of whiskey, 920 barrels of flour, and 5 flour barrels [Augusta Co. Court of Claims, pg 44 April 19, 1782]. The Fee Book of 1780 includes "Daniel Joseph, Jew" [Lyman Chalkley's "Records of Augusta County, Virginia, Vol. 2, pg 410]. During the 1780's Daniel and wife Eve (Hanger) Joseph bought and sold several properties in Augusta County. By March 1791 a land deed records Daniel and Eve residing in neighboring Rockingham County, Virginia. Daniel Joseph probably died between March 1791 and 1799 since Eve Joseph married a second time to Warner Peters on Jan. 5, 1799 in Rockingham Co. 3/14/99 |
