Descendants of Thomas Dimick

Generation No. 2

2. SHUBAEL2 DIMICK (THOMAS1) died October 29, 1732 in Mansfield, CT. He married JOANNA BURSLEY April 1663 in Mansfield, CT, daughter of John Bursley and Joanna Hull.

Notes
Called "Ensign" and "Deacon". He was Ensign in the Militia; Selectman in Barnstable 1685-86; deputy of Colony Court, 1685, 86, 89. About 1693 he moved to Mansfield, CT where he was known as Deacon Dimick, an Elder in the Congregational Church (Ref. pg 338-339, General Notes on Barnstable Families). He is buried in the Mansfield Center cemetery. He wrote his name as Dimmuck and Dimmock. (Note: Mansfield, CT was originally a part of Windham, CT)

Notes my trip to Manfield, CT. on 6/30/96:
Shubael and his wife Joanna are buried in the "Mansfield Center Olde Cemetery est 1699 - First Cemetery in Tolland Co." This is located on Rt 195. Their tombstones are located behind the "Storrs" headstone (the largest in the cemetery) to the left of the flagpole.
Shubael's tombstone reads: "Here lies the remains of that pius and Godly man deacon Shubael Dimmuck husband to that worthy Godly woman Mrs Joanna who after he had favored God and his people fell asleep on Oct 29 1732 Aged __.
On Joanna's tombstone: "Here lieth the body of Joanna Dimmuck ye wife of Deacon Shubael Dimmuck who died May 8 1727 Aged 84 years".

The Mansfield Historical Society has MANY interesting books, articles etc. on Dimock family history. Included in their collection is a highboy "made of maple with pine and chestnut as secondary woods. This highboy made by Eliphalet Dimock (1753-1840) who was the great grandson of Deacon Shubael Dimock (1644-1732). He was one of the Mansfield Volunteers during the Revolutionary War and was active in town affairs throughout his long life. The donor was a direct descendent of the maker. Gift of Edwina Whitney."

Note: Both Shubael and Joanna have a headstone AND a footstone!
Many other Dimocks are buried in the Gurley Cemetery in Mansfield, CT.
