* The Ohio Dishers Family Home Page*

Updated September 6, 2000

The Ohio Dishers are the members descended from a John Disher of Biezwil, Canton Solothurn, Switzerland in a region also known as Bucheggberg lying just off the Zurich-Bern Autobahn. John came to the US about 1858 with his family consisting of father, mother, sister Anna Maria Disher, a brother Jacob Disher and a half-brother Durs Emch. The reporter is Arthur John Disher, Jr. his great grandson. Old John came to the US just in time to get involved in the American Civil War, serving with the Ohio Volunteer Cavalry under General Sherman in the latter's exploits around Atlanta, GA and accompanying Sherman in his "March to the Sea". The other side of my family were German emigrants who settled (read homesteaded) in the Firelands district of Ohio. Specifically in Ottawa County Ohio. My mother's maiden name was Steffens.
