ASSOCIATION BACKGROUND: This association is made up of the descendants of William C. and Mary (Degnan) Luby. Mainly relying on "The Luby Family in America" (a booklet distributed by Gerard F. Luby II at the 100th Reunion), as well as documented Annual Minutes, the following "events" chronicle the "likely" beginning of our Luby Saga: >>William was born in the small village of Luray (?or Suey?), County Sligo, IRELAND, in 1800. He supposedly had 1 brother, Brian; and 2 sisters, Mary (Luby) Flannigan and Nannie (Luby) Dunn. His wife, Mary Degnan, might be a twin! No other information on her has been found yet. The young couple, without their newborn daughter, supposedly came over to Canada for a year or two in 1832(?), returning to Ireland for several years, before settling in the United States' Northeast (in 1846? or 1864?) with their 6 (surviving) children: Mary (Luby) Gallagher, Ann Theresa (Luby) Egan, Catherine E (Luby) Tierney, James C. Luby, John William Luby, and Ellen Sabina (Luby) Gallagher {the Gallagher men were NOT related as far as we know!}. [According to the 1st Reunion Newspaper Article, Mr. & Mrs. William C. Luby came to New York in 1835, and then to Ottawa, Illinois. In 1842, they returned to the "Old Country", where they had left their eldest daughter, Mary. They returned to America through Boston in 1845, settling in Milford until their deaths.]
This ANNUAL LUBY ASSOCIATION MEETING (REUNION) has continued religiously since July 5th, 1893; founded by William & Mary's oldest son, James C. Even though MANY families have moved away, the Milford, Massachusetts area has been the meeting location for the Association's annual reunion of these 6 -Branches. Please check out the information attached(*).
REMEMBER --> You can ALWAYS plan for this event; the MEETING is on the LAST SUNDAY IN JUNE (every year). There are usually things to do starting on Friday; plan your own East Coast "mini" reunion and/or I can "broadcast" any other upcoming event - just send it to me!!!
*NEW {Jun05}: The "Family Group Sheet" (pdf format) lists William & Mary (1st Generation) and their info/kids under FamilyTreeMaker Files. Under Related Files, there should be (6) Geneology Reports -- 1 for each branch (in text format) -- add 1 to these for correct generation (for Association purposes). Specific reports can also be created -- just ask!
NOTE --> If anyone knows how to MERGE FTM files, I'd like some assistance.
GOD BLESS THE LUBYs, LUBETTES, and AMERICA !!!
